WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to a fun packed year in Class 3 at St Anne’s Fulshaw.
Please make a note of our Meet the Teacher evening on Monday 25th September at 4:30pm.
We will be busy learning lots of new things and having fun this term. Here are some of the things we shall be doing and what support you can give at home;
Literacy
During the first half term we will be exploring the book ‘Grandad’s Island’ by Benji Davies. We are going to write a return narrative and information about jungle animals. Next half term we shall be looking at ‘The Bog Baby’ by Jeanne Willis and writing a return narrative and instructions for building a habitat.
Reading
Please encourage your child to read for 15 minutes a night. Your child has a Reading Diary to record page numbers etc. and this can be signed by a parent /carer or a child on a daily basis and must be handed in to be checked. If you do not have time to read due to clubs etc please write this in the reading diary.
Maths
The children will be covering a range of units from the maths national curriculum. This term we shall be looking at place value, addition and subtraction and multiplication and division.
Science
Science will be taught once a week. This term we will be looking at animals including humans and living things and seasonal changes.
Art and DT
Art and DT take place once a week, this term we shall be looking at drawing skills and making a pouch for an eCharm.
Topic
This term in geography we shall be finding out about our school, its location and what things surround it. In history we will be exploring the differences between Victoria schools and schools today.
PE
PE will be taught on a Thursday and Friday. Children will need the following kit: black shorts; green logo T-shirt; socks and spare socks, black joggers /tracksuit and jumper, black fleece or skins (ideal for winter) pumps or trainers, a carrier bag for wet clothing and bobbles (girls). All children must now have shin pads in their PE bags.
We will be starting with running and will receive football coaching every Friday.
PE bags need to be in school on Monday and sent home on Friday to be washed.
Music
Music will be taught on a Wednesday morning.
Homework
Maths – 1 page of mental maths book per week. Please mark this together with your child.
Homework Menu - complete one of the activities from the menu each week.
Spellings – spellings for this half term are stuck in the front of the spelling book. Tests will take place in the back of this book. Please keep the spelling book in your child’s book bag and return to school each Friday. Please practise these in whichever way works best for your child.
Computing
Computing will be taught on a Wednesday morning and will cover mouse skills and data.
Languages
French will be taught by Mrs Yates on a Wednesday afternoon.
In Class 3 we agreed that these will be our rules:
Be a good listener.
Use our manners and treat others how we want to be treated.
Be persistent.
Try new things, take risks and make mistakes.
Always be ready to learn, honest and helpful.
If you have any questions then please send me an email.
Many thanks,
Miss Cat Smith
