Welcome to Chestnut Class
We are in the final term of the year - how quickly time has gone! We have lots to look forward to before school closes in July, including a residential visit for Year 3 children, Sports Week and our Junior performance
Here is some of the learning we have to look forward to this term...
English - Our first book for this year will be “The Lost Happy Endings” by the poet Carol Ann Duffy. This beautifully illustrated book will inspire us to write twisted narratives. Our second book will be “Manfish” by Jennifer Berne, which is a simple biography of the naturalist Jacques Cousteau.
Maths - Year 3 Fractions, Money, Time, Shape, Statistics and Year 4 Decimals, Money, Time, Shape, Statistics
Science - Electricity will be our topic for the beginning of summer term. Identifying sources and the dangers of electricity, conductors and insulators and construct simple circuits. After half term we will move on to sound.
Geography - Rivers. I hope we will be able to go to the River Bollin at some point this term to undertake some fieldwork.
History - the success of the Ancient Mayan civilisation
DT - In our first weeks we are looking at constructing pavilions. We will explore successful pavilions and design and build models of our own
Art - the textiles of Rosie Lee Tompkins and using them to inspire our own work
Computing - This half term we are investigating weather systems. Collecting and recording weather data using the Internet and Microsoft excel, researching weather stations and designing some of our own. After half term we will have a go at building a webpage and creating content for it.
PE - Our class will have PE on Mondays and Fridays this term, so all children need to have their kit in school on these days; however, it would be useful for your child to have a PE kit on their peg all week, so that when the opportunity arises we can go out to play rounders or cricket in lovely weather. Our lessons this term will be Football with Stockport FC on Fridays and swimming lessons on Mondays
RE - Looking at key features of church buildings, symbols and artefacts in Christianity to consider the key question: How do beliefs shape identity? After half term we will research and learn about key Jewish celebrations such as Yom Kippur, Passover and Bat/Bar Mitzvah.
** Please remember that all children will need a PE kit on Thursdays and Fridays. This must include a change of footwear for football, shin pads and clothes warm enough for whatever the weather throws at us this term. A change of socks is always a good idea, particularly for the girls wearing tights. **
